MyBinding.com Raises More Than $5,000 for Mercy Corps' Japan Relief Effort

HILLSBORO, OR, May 4, 2011 – MyBinding.com, one of the country's leading Internet retailers of document finishing machines and supplies, has announced that they raised more than $5,000 in March to support the Mercy Corps' Japan relief effort. Japan was struck by a powerful earthquake and tsunami on March 9, 2011 which resulted in billions of dollars of damage and displaced countless residents.

“We were devastated by what happened in Japan and wanted to do whatever we could,” said Jeff McRitchie, Vice-President of Marketing for MyBinding.com. “So we contacted Mercy Corps to see how we could help out.” MyBinding chose Mercy Corps because they had a reputation for getting money to the people in need. Over the past five years, Mercy Corps has used more than 88 percent of their resource to help those in need.

During their monthly sale in late March, MyBinding.com offered to donate $5 to Mercy Corps' relief effort for every order they received. The company also gave their customers the opportunity to donate directly to Mercy Corps if they wished. By combining customer and company donations, MyBinding.com was able to raise $5,665. Mercy Corps set up a local fundraising page on their website for the MyBinding fundraiser, it can be found at https://www.mercycorps.org/fundraising/wwwmybindingcom

Although the Hillsboro, Oregon-based company has played an active charitable role in their local community, company owner Mike Ware said that this was the company's first efforts to help out on a global scale. “Giving back to the community was one of the principles this company was founded on,” said Ware. “We're happy we had a chance to reach beyond our immediate vicinity and partner with Mercy Corps to help the people of Japan.”
