Tax Season 2019: Know the Laws Know Your Opportunities

February 15, 2019 by Jeff McRitchie

There are two very important security regulations that require the proper disposal of sensitive and secure documents: Dahle-Tax-Time

FACTA – As of June 1, 2005, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 is now in effect. This new regulation is the largest step the Federal Government has taken to curb the increasingly widespread occurrences of identity theft and consumer fraud. This regulation makes it a requirement for all businesses, even if there is only one employee, to properly dispose of any information derived from consumer credit information before it is discarded. This would include invoices, credit and background checks, and any other sheet that contains consumer financial information.

HIPAA -In addition to consumer credit information, the health industry must also safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI) and ensure that patients health records are properly destroyed before discarded. The scope of these new regulations is enormous, and unfortunately, to reach compliance most consumers will migrate toward the smaller and more inexpensive shredders that their superstore has to offer. So, it’s important to try and raise awareness of FACTA/HIPAA in your community and steer them toward a reliable shredder that their company will grow in to.

A Few Reasons Why Documents Should Be Shred In-House:

                • Documents are irrecoverable– using one of our quiet office shredders, you can be assured that every document is shred into tiny irrecoverable pieces.
                • Stay in Compliance– If you are negligent on the disposal of your records, fines could cost you thousands of dollars. Shred your outdated sensitive information on the highest security levels that Dahle shredders provide.
                • Environmentally Friendly– save the cost of records management/storage by shredding outdated records with our Dahle CleanTec Shredders, that also insure the capture of fine dust particles using our CleanTec Air Filtration.
                • Documents are Shred immediately– In house shredding is a one-time cost. With mobile shredding, cost is never ending and in fact, increases each year as fuel surcharges rise. Plus, you know who is handling/shredding your sensitive documents when kept in house.

Dahle can support your efforts in selling the right shredder for the right application and what better time to start than in the middle of Tax Season, when many sensitive document copies are needed for filings and required to be destroyed once completed.

One final tip: P4 security level machines are typically adequate for tax season demands; always ask to make certain. As always, should you need additional information on a shredder or have any questions regarding any of the Dahle products, always feel free to contact us directly.

MyBinding.com Partners with Dahle to Release New Eco-Friendly Paper Shredders

April 5, 2012 by Jeff McRitchie

MyBinding.com introduces Dahle’s new line of environmentally friendly shredding machines.

HILLSBORO, OR, April 5, 2012 – MyBinding.com, a growing Inc. 5000 company, recently introduced a line of new Dahle eco-friendly paper shredding machines. These new paper shredders are some of the most energy efficient shredding devices on the market today.

Dahle’s SmartPower Energy Management System is what makes their new shredders so energy efficient. The SmartPower system is a multi-phase mechanism that does two things to conserve energy. First, the system registers when the machine has been inactive for ten minutes and decreases the power to go into a sleep mode. Second, the shredder completely powers down after an additional 20 minutes. While other paper shredders offer similar sleep modes, none completely power down after such a short time. The SmartPower System is perfect for companies looking for ways to reduce their electrical costs and conserve energy.

“From production to operation, Dahle has always taken environmental concerns very seriously,” said Scott Prokop, VP, Dahle North America, Inc, in a press release published on their website. “We are pleased to be able to offer such an environmentally friendly product.”

A variety of Dahle shredders are now featuring the SmartPower Energy Management System, including the CleanTEC series and others ranging from compact, personal devices up to heavy duty, multi-department machines. Security levels are available from two to six, accommodating a variety of needs. Dahle paper shredders are equipped with blades made from a single block of German steel and are aligned in an all-steel frame for a rugged, sturdy shredder. Dahle backs up their cutting shafts with a one year warranty on levels five and six and for life on the other models. These shredders also feature an ESP Protection System to prevent overfeeding and jams, rubber shock mounts for quiet operation, and a thermally-protected motor to avoid overheating.

“Dahle makes a great shredder and we’re really excited about adding their new machines to our site,” said Jeff McRitchie, Vice-President of Marketing for MyBinding.com. “They always deliver high quality products that we can be proud to offer to our customers.”

Dahle is a part of a German-born company that has grown into an international business.

Dahle is an international company that has been manufacturing high quality products since 1930. They began with pencil sharpeners, then moved on to produce scissors and shears quickly followed by guillotine and rotary paper trimmers. Although paper shredders were the last to join their product line-up, they continue the Dahle tradition of high quality, top-of-the-line performance.

Five Things Every Busy Office Needs

June 5, 2010 by Jeff McRitchie Leave a Comment

Every office needs supplies, from pens and paper to computers and fax machines. You are alsomartin-yale-1624-sm13-ma going to need some other things that might not even have crossed your mind. Here are five of them.

                1. High-quality staplers. Just about everyone in your office can benefit from having a good stapler at the the ready. A stapler offers an easy way to fasten documents together with the need for a big binding machine. There are a lot of staplers you can choose from including compact desktop models, portable devices (good for your traveling employees!), and high-capacity electric units. Some brand names to check out are Dahle Novus and, of course, Swingline.
                2. Good cutting tools. Even if your business doesn’t deal in the creative arts (i.e. photography, graphic design), you can still benefit from owning some paper cutting devices. Scissors can be easily stored in your employees’ desks, as can some of the smaller rotary trimmers on the market. If your workers frequently need to cut larger quantities of paper, a first-rate guillotine or stack cutter can be a good investment. A couple of companies that make great paper cutting tools include GBC and Akiles. Dahle also makes some excellent scissors.
                3. An electric letter opener. Your office probably receives a lot of mail and opening all of those envelopes can be time-consuming. (Costly too, when you consider labor costs.) That’s why an electric letter open is a must-have device. These machines can process hundreds – or even thousands – of mail per hour and most do so automatically. That way, you can spend time and money involved in more engaging – and lucrative – activities. Martin Yale makes some really great letter openers, so check them out.
                4. Whiteboards and bulletin boards. Even in this age of e-mail and iPhones, you can still use old-fashioned ways of communicating with your colleagues. Whiteboards are ideal for conference rooms for jotting down ideas during meetings. Smaller boards can even be placed in cubicles so your employees can stay on top of things. And bulletin boards are ideal for displaying announcements and other important items, such as labor law posters and reminders about the upcoming company picnic. Quartet, Ghent, and Balt Best-Rite all make boards that can help you communicate.
                5. High-security paper shredders. Unless you want to become a victim of fraud or face a lawsuit of some sort, you’re going to need paper shredders in your office. These machines will give you a secure way to get rid of any documents containing sensitive information (i.e. bank account numbers, personnel data, etc.). You can choose large departmental shredders that can be used by multiple people over the course of the day or you can get smaller devices that can be stored right by your workers’ desks. Be sure to choose cross-cut machines so you’ll get the most security available. Some great paper shredder manufacturers are Fellowes, GBC, and Intimus.

Every office needs tools to be successful and if you stock your workplace with these items, your odds of success have just increased. Get these great products today and see what they can do for you.

Three Ways of Stapling With Dahle Novus Staplers

June 1, 2010 by Jeff McRitchie Leave a Comment

020-1267-sm12Did you know there are three different ways you can use a stapler? It may not seem like it, but based on the stapler you have, there are multiple ways it can be used depending on your needs. The three different ways of using a stapler are permanent fastening, temporary pinning, and tacking, and depending on which Dahle Novus stapler you have, you can either do two or three of these fastening types. To switch between methods, all you need to do is rotate the anvil on the base of the device, and have some knowledge of the three stapling methods. Here’s some information about them.

1.) Permanent fastening. When you think of stapling, this is probably what comes to mind. Permanent fastening – also known as standard clinch – is what you need when you’re confident you won’t need to take apart your document at a later date. This type of stapling is often the last step in the production of business reports, personal correspondence, booklets, and more, and it can be done in both professional and casual environments. All Dahle Novus staplers – including the heavy-duty models – are capable of standard clinches since this is such a common method.

2.) Temporary pinning. If you’ve ever had to remove a staple from a document, you know how difficult it can be. No matter what kind of staple remover you use, wresting the fastener out of the paper can lead to frustration…not to mention a ruined document. Temporary pinning can help you avoid this situation because it allows you to easily remove staples from your papers. This method turns the legs of the staple out instead of in, giving the staple “wings,” so to speak. This makes the fastener easy to remove with your bare fingers and without ripping your document. It’s a great method to use not only when you think your document might need future editing, but when you want to avoid using paper and binder clips and other types of removable fasteners which can damage paper and get lost easily. This fastening method is available on Dahle Novus Executive, Flat Clinch, and Long-Arm products.

3.) Tacking. This stapling method is a little more common than temporary pinning and if you’ve ever attached stuff to a bulletin board, you may have used this method without even realizing it. Tacking occurs when you open your stapler and use it to literally staple a piece of paper to a wall, corkboard, or other vertical surface. This method is faster and easier on your fingers than using nails or pushpins to put stuff up, plus the staples are almost invisible so it looks great, too. Dahle Novus Executive and Flat Clinch staplers (except the B8FC) are the products to use when you want to tack and show off your documents.

As you can see, using a Dahle Novus stapler can really open up a new world of stapling thanks to their ability to permanently and temporarily fasten papers together, as well as attach them to an upright surface. No matter what type of fastening you need to do, it is possible with Dahle Novus products.
