Three Time-Saving Office Machines You Should Consider Getting

February 8, 2011 by Jeff McRitchie Leave a Comment

One of the most important professional skills to master is time management. Saving time6a0120a56fb3fd970b0148c8743c7d970c-120wi-ma can help you remain productive and meet deadlines. To succeed at time management, there are devices that can assist you. Here are three time-saving office machines you should consider getting:

                1. A paper folding machine. Folding documents is one of the easiest office tasks, but it also happens to be one of the most time-consuming. If you only fold a few documents a day and don’t send out large numbers of invoices or newsletters, you can probably do just fine folding your documents by hand. However, most people can benefit greatly from having access to a paper folder. This is a type of device that can take a stack of documents and fold them so they can be popped into envelopes without a lot of hassle. Paper folders can be small, desktop devices that are good for light use or they can be more heavy-duty and fold hundreds or even thousands of documents per hour. Since there are so many different folders to choose from, there’s definitely one that’s right for you.
                2. A letter opener. If you get a paper folder, a letter opener can be a terrific accompaniment. A letter opener makes it quick and easy to process your mail, which can be really handy during the middle of a busy workday. There are a number of handheld openers to choose from, as well as larger devices that are perfect for companies that handle hundreds of pieces of mail per day. One of the many advantages to using a letter opener is that one can typically open a letter in such a way that the enclosed document doesn’t get cut up. Also, using a letter opener can reduce the likelihood of paper cuts which is always a plus.
                3. A pouch laminator. It almost goes without saying that paper can be easily damaged whether it’s due to spills, rips, or overhandling. If you frequently have to recreate documents because they’ve fallen apart or become lost, you’re probably wondering how you can save time so you can do something more constructive. The good news is a pouch laminator can help you out. You can use one of these devices to protect items ranging from name tags to placards, safety inspections to photographs. Using a laminator is easy once you get the hang of it and doing so will definitely make your materials much more durable. This will allow you to use your documents as often as possible and not worry about them becoming useless.

Saving time during the workday is important and if you have the right equipment, doing so can be easy. The three machines discussed in this article can help you manage time more efficiently, process incoming and outgoing mail, and protect important documents. Consider getting a paper folder, letter opener, and/or a pouch laminator to see how your workday can be easier and more productive. You’ll be happy that you did.

Office Devices to Be Careful Around

January 13, 2011 by Jeff McRitchie Leave a Comment

It’s hard to imagine life without some of our most utilized office products such as scissors,005-Dahle-Vantage-Scissors2-ma laminators, and paper shredders. However, as helpful as these devices are, they can also be dangerous. Here are the office devices you should be careful around along with suggestions regarding their safe usage.

1.)    Any type of cutting device. Without a doubt, cutting tools can be some of the most dangerous office devices. This includes scissors/shears, rotary trimmers, and stack and guillotine cutters. One false move with one of these items could easily cause an injury so you need to be very careful when you’re using them. A lot of it boils down to common sense. (Such as, “don’t run with scissors.”) Also, there are so many cutting tools that have safety features to help you prevent injuries. For example, rotary trimmers often have blades that are encased in plastic so that you won’t accidentally run your fingers over the blade. The best guillotine cutters have a spring-loaded blade and a latch hook to keep the blade in place. And stack cutters often require you to use both hands when cutting so that your hands without them getting them trapped near the blade. Most of all, common sense is often the most important component in staying safe when cutting.  As long as you have that, you should be able to cut without any issues.

2.)    Laminators. Of all the document finishing methods to choose from, laminating is one of the most popular. It’s not too difficult, it’s pretty speedy, and it’s something the whole family can get involved in. However, you need to be careful when laminating, especially when you’re working with a roll laminator. Not only can these devices become extremely warm to the touch, they can also pose a  problem due to their rollers. Hands and fingers can get stuck between the rollers and children in particular are at risk for this. Luckily, you can prevent disaster from occurring by staying mindful of the situation and keeping at eye on everyone (including yourself) using the machine. Some laminators do have safety shields so you should choose a device with this feature if you’ll be laminating around kids.

3.)    Paper and multimedia shredders. It’s probably no surprise to see paper and multimedia shredders on this list. The shredder is one of the most dangerous office devices invented since it’s basically just a machine designed to chew things up. Depending on the device, you’ll be able to shred paper, CD’s, credit cards, and so on, so you can imagine how powerful shredders are. These machines can really do damage if you’re not careful. The best way to ensure a safe shredding experience is follow the manufacturer’s directions and keep the machine away from kids and even pets. Most shredders have some sort of safety feature (such as an interlock switch), so be sure the machine you choose has one with which you’re comfortable.

All of these office devices are helpful but you need to be careful when using them. Good luck with your work and stay safe!

Office Tools and Supplies for a Productive Holiday Season

January 3, 2011 by Jeff McRitchie Leave a Comment

It’s hard to believe but the holidays are just about here again. And with that comes all thetguillomax-sm1-ma preparations: the cooking, the decorating, the shopping, the preparation of greeting cards, and so on and so forth. Having the right tools and supplies around can really make preparing for the holidays a lot easier and you’ll be surprised to know that there are a few different types of office products that can really help you out. Here are three of them….

1.)    Cutting tools. A good pair of scissors is great to have throughout the year, but you’d probably be surprised at how handy they can be during the holiday season. You can use them when you’re wrapping gifts, doing crafts, and so on. If you’d prefer a different kind of cutting tool, Zippy knives are a good choice, especially since they allow you to quickly and cleanly cut wrapping paper and ribbons. Rotary trimmers can also be helpful, especially when you’re doing crafts. Some trimmers can produce wavy lines that can add zest to homemade cards and other projects.

2.)    A paper shredder. Paper shredders have never been so popular. They offer a way of disposing old correspondence, bank statements, and other documents that contain personal information. While you should use one of these machines year-round, they can be especially handy during the holidays. You can use them to get rid of those credit and debit card receipts, shred the envelopes greeting cards come in, and even make filling for gift bags and boxes. All you need to do is run some colored paper through your shredder and you’ll have filling in just a few seconds. Best of all, it will help you save money because you won’t need to head to the store and pay for materials that will just be recycled (or thrown away) after just one use.

3.)    A pouch laminator. If you’re looking to get your kids more involved this season, you can do crafts with them with a pouch laminator. With a laminator, you can make customized place mats for those special dinners, laminate photos and artwork for homemade gifts, and more. (Just be sure to supervise the kids as they’re using it so no one accidentally gets burned – laminators can get very hot.) If you want to add a special touch to your projects, you can purchase laminating foil. This type of foil will add beautiful accents to your work and make it look more festive no matter which holiday you’re celebrating.

Cutting tools, paper shredders, and pouch laminators are some of the most helpful devices you can have access to as the days get colder and the holidays appear on the horizon. They can help you as you wrap gifts, prepare greeting cards, deal with your finances, and create memorable homemade gifts. And the best part is, you may already have one or more of these items at home, so you can save money and still have a productive holiday season. Start getting ready for the holidays now. After all, they’ll be here before you know it!

Three Must-Have Products for Dealing With Mail at Home

June 15, 2010 by Jeff McRitchie Leave a Comment

Dealing with mail at home can be a pain if you don’t have the right equipment. Letter openers martin-yale-1624-sm1-maand paper folders can help you open and prepare correspondence, while a high-quality paper shredder can help you get rid of junk mail and documents you want to keep private. So here are the three must-have products you should get so dealing with your mail will be easier and more secure.

1.) A letter opener. Since we’re in 2010, the old-fashioned, knife-like envelope openers are a thing of the past. Now we have automated devices that can really speed up the process of opening your daily batch of mail. One that’s great for use at home is the Martin Yale 1624 Handheld Letter Opener. This device runs on 4 AA batteries and is small enough to fit in a desk or kitchen drawer. To use the 1624, all you need to do is insert a standard-sized envelope into it. The envelope will be opened instantly and you won’t have to deal with paper cuts or anything of the sort, especially since the blades are 100% enclosed. The 1624 was designed to fit comfortably in your hand, so opening your mail will be a painless endeavor. Plus, this product is affordable so you can save your money for other things.

2.) A paper folder. Whether you still send a lot of written correspondence to your friends and relatives or you want to make the process of sending out your holiday newsletter easier, a paper folder can really help you out. This is a type of machine that simply folds a sheet of 8.5″ x 11″ paper into thirds so you can easily pop the document into an envelope. An affordable device that you can use at home is the Techko LF282N. It can fold 5 sheets of paper at once and it can even be placed on a desktop because it’s not very big. It comes with a one-year warranty and is reasonably priced to boot.

3.) A shredder. Finally, you’re going to need a paper shredder even if you don’t send out a lot of paper correspondence. That’s because just about every piece of mail you receive contains enough information about yourself that an identity thief could potentially steal. The information these people look for include names, addresses, Social Security numbers, bank account and credit card information, and more. Just think of all the mail you get that contains this type of information ranging from utility bills to credit card offers, bank statements to government benefit checks. That’s why you need a shredder such as the Fellowes IntelliShred PS-79Ci. This is a cross-cut device that will take care of all your sensitive information, including expired credit cards. This machine is easy to use and because it has a Level 3 security rating so you can have peace of mind.

Dealing with mail at home is easy when you have the right equipment. All you really need is a letter opener, a paper folder, and a shredder to make things a breeze. So consider getting these great devices for your home today so dealing with your mail can be easier – and more secure – than ever before.
