If you’re an avid reader like I am, one of the worst feelings is opening up your book to realize that you never put a bookmark in the last page you were on, instead relying on sheer memory to get you back to where you were. Bookmarks can make or break a reading experience and while there are many types of bookmarks on the market, having a custom bookmark is rare. With our bookmarks, you can create a custom bookmark with whatever your heart desires. Here is a step by step guide on how to make your ideal bookmark with your home computer and printer:

  1. Buy the bookmark paper. Go to MyBinding.com and find our Print Your Own Bookmarks.

  2. Download a bookmark template. Next to each of the Print Your Own products on MyBinding, we host templates that you can download. Choose between downloading a PDF, a DOC or an AI (for Adobe Illustrator).

  3. Open up the template. Now that you have a clean template in front of you, it is up to you how you want to fill the space. Notice the lines that show you where each bookmark starts and ends. You could type out your favorite quote or paste a picture of your favorite animal. You could even make the bookmark custom to the novel you are reading– for instance, if you’re reading Lord of the Rings, you could put a picture of Mordor. The possibilities are literally endless. Once you are done with your changes, save the file.

  4. Test print. Before loading in your special bookmark paper, print out your creation on standard printer paper to see how it looks. This will also help you see how you should load in your bookmark paper.

  5. Load your bookmark paper. Make sure you load your bookmark paper right side up and make sure your printer has adequate ink. If you are printing images or a lot of text, ink can run down quicker than you might expect.

  6. Print your final product. We are almost there. Now go to the editing program that you chose, hit print and watch your brand new bookmarks get made right before your very eyes! If all goes as planned, you should have the coolest bookmarks on your block.

  7. Bonus step! If you have a pouch laminator, now would be a good time to use it– by laminating your bookmarks, you can ensure that they will last exponentially longer. Lamination can protect your bookmark from tears, water damage or any other trouble a bookmark tends to get into. If you don’t have a pouch laminator, you should check out the selection of machines we have on our website in the ‘Laminator’ section.

While reading has a social stigma of being boring, even skeptics can agree that customized bookmarks are exciting. Whether you’re reading on the bus or in the waiting room of your doctor’s office, your bookmark will catch people’s eyes and they will want to read and be cool just like you.
